The seasons are beginning to change, and things are finally starting to get a bit cooler. We’re not seeing triple digit temperatures anymore, and will soon be getting back into the chilly seasons where we abuse our central heating system. But, before we start really putting our heater to the test, it’s probably a good idea to make sure it’s not going to rack up your utility bill. Here are a few things to keep in mind when making sure your heater is up to par.

Air Duct Cleaning – first off, when was the last time you had your air ducts cleaned? If you don’t know the answer to that, than it’s probably time to get it done. Over time a good amount of nasty stuff tends to build up in there, including dust, debris, mold and even bugs and rodents. Basically, lots of nasty stuff can get in there and then get circulated around your home.

General Maintenance – like any other bit of machinery, your heating furnace will need some general maintenance from time to time. Parts wear out and need cleaning, and if you let it go for too long, you start seeing decreased performance. Continue reading
