Facts About Heat Pumps Posted By: Jerred Holtzople

When it comes to owning a home, there are many things a homeowner can do to improve the quality of life around the house. Monitoring the heating and cooling system can go a long way towards not only improving comfort, but saving money as well. The following are tips on how to better care for and monitor your home’s heat pump.

Take Time To Understand How Your Heat Pump Works.

There are two parts to heat pump installations. This is commonly referred to as a split system. There is an outdoor unit containing the compressor and a coil, also called a heat exchanger. The indoor unit is comprised of a few more parts. These include another coil, grille, electric heating elements, and of course, a fan that blows air through your duct system. The indoor and outdoor units are connected by copper tubes. Within these tubes, a gas refrigerant is moved between the outdoor and indoor coils. Even at very cold temps, freon (the refrigerant) can still absorb heat from the air.

In the wintertime, air is drawn across the outdoor coil and the refrigerant absorbs heat. When the already-hot refrigerant goes through the compressor, it becomes even hotter. Continue reading

Important Information Regarding The Furnace Posted By: Adriana Noton

A device commonly used for heating is called a furnace. The word comes from the Latin word fornax, which means oven. These structures have been around for centuries. What is thought to have been the earliest form of this structure was excavated in Pakistan. At its prime, the device was probably used to manufacture ceramics. American and Canadian English use the word furnace to describe a household-heating device. In British English, this type of device is termed a boiler or heater and the term furnace is assigned to describe an industrial furnace.

There are different types. These devices vary in shape, size, purpose and fuel supply. The primary types: household, metallurgical, industrial process and outdoor wood-fired boilers.

A household furnace is a type of major appliance. Generally they are permanently installed in a home. Within the United States, natural gas is used to fuel these devices. Other fuel sources include liquefied petroleum gas, fuel oil, wood and coal. There are three primary components: controls and safety devices; blower and air movement; and burners, heat exchanger, venting and draft inducer. Modern structures can be classified as condensing or non-condensing, depending upon their ability to extract heat from exhaust gases. society home and family home business finance investment Continue reading

Homeowner Benefits And Possible Hazards Associated With Duct Cleaning Posted By: Adriana Noton

Homeowners are routinely faced with many routine expenses related to maintenance. Appliances break, the plumbing needs fixing, or the roof leaks. Today, many owners are routinely bombarded with advertising from companies specializing in duct cleaning. Ducts are components of forced heating and cooling systems. They are connected to heat registers, grills, drip pans, air fans, and other forced air paraphernalia.

Since they are inside the house, why would they need professional cleaners? For some people, the simple reason is indoor air pollution. Every home is different, of course, and indoor pollution varies considerably. Sometimes an entire family experiences symptoms that ultimately are connected to problems with inside air. Most of the time, however, the dust and dirt within the duct system stays put, and most indoor air pollution is the result of cooking, household chemicals or smoking.

There are time, however, when the system absolutely should be cleaned. If there is visible mold on any component, or an obvious infestation of rodents or insects such as cockroaches or other vermin, of if the ducts are simply old and clogged with detritus, then they need the help of a professional cleaner. society Continue reading

Features To Consider When Buying A Furnace Posted By: Adriana Noton

When shopping for a new furnace what should be considered? Well the first thing is energy efficiency because nobody is going to want to pay high electric bills. Also there is the environmental aspect to consider. The cleaner a unit burns the better; this goes for Mother Nature to children growing up breathing the air.

With that said there are three different types available on the market today. Beginning with Electric models, these are inexpensive to install and maintain however they are quite costly to use. The next version is one that runs on oil. This model is less expensive to run however does not burn cleanly, so from an environmental point of view they really are not a good option. Finally there are units that run on gas. These models operate on either propane or natural gas. This type of is not only good for the environment it is also nice on the old checkbook. Gas units operate at an AFUE level of 90 percent or higher. AFUE stands for Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency which translates into higher the AFUE percentage, the less it will cost to run the furnace. society Continue reading
